What it makes
The Sketch studio turns a photo into a hand-drawn look for your laser. Pencil sketch keeps soft shading and engraves like a photo. Ink line art traces the outlines. Crosshatch shades with criss-crossing lines like a draftsman. Contour draws flowing lines that follow the shapes. The three line styles are vectors, so they stay crisp at any size and engrave in a fraction of the time of a photo.
Styles
| Style | Output | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Pencil sketch | Image (PNG) | Soft, shaded portraits |
| Ink line art | Vector lines | Clean outlines, fast engraving |
| Crosshatch | Vector lines | An etched, hand-inked look |
| Contour | Vector lines | Flowing, artistic drawings |
How it works
- Load a photo.
- Pick a style.
- Adjust it: stroke softness and darkness for pencil; line detail and sensitivity for ink; hatch directions and spacing for crosshatch.
- Export: PNG at exact size for pencil, or SVG, DXF or G-code for line styles.
Tips
- Raise the contrast a little before sketching.
- More hatch directions, darker tones. Each extra direction shades a darker band; wider spacing is lighter and faster.
- Score the lines at low power for a pen look.
- Use dither for the pencil style on lasers without grayscale.
Only use photos you have the right to use, such as your own photos or ones your customer sends you.

Questions
What is the difference between the styles?
Pencil sketch is an image you engrave like a photo, with soft shading. Ink line art, crosshatch and contour are vector lines, which stay sharp at any size and engrave much faster.
Which photos work best?
Clear subjects with good lighting: portraits, pets and buildings. Raising the contrast a little before you sketch gives cleaner edges.
What if my laser has no grayscale mode?
Turn on Dither for the pencil style. It turns shades into dots that any laser can engrave.
How do I get a real pen-drawing look?
Use a vector style and score the lines at low power, so the laser draws thin lines instead of engraving areas.
Which material looks best?
Light woods such as birch and maple show fine lines well. Crosshatch on light wood looks like a hand-inked etching.
