Soundwave Art Generator for Laser Engraving
A song, a baby's first laugh or a loved one's voice message, engraved as a waveform: bars, a smooth line or a circle, with a title and a QR code that plays the sound.

What it makes
The Soundwave studio turns a sound into a picture of itself: the peaks and quiet moments of a song, a first word, a wedding vow or the last voicemail from someone you miss. It is one of the most personal things a laser can make, and it works on any laser that can engrave.
How it works
- Load the sound. Choose an audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A, or a phone video), or press Record voice and speak. Nothing is uploaded: the audio stays in your browser.
- Pick the part. Use Start and End to keep just the words or the chorus you want.
- Style it. Bars is the classic look; Line is a smooth outline; Circle wraps the bars around a ring, which suits coasters and round plaques.
- Add the words. A title and subtitle, such as the song, the artist and a date.
- QR code (optional). Paste a link and a QR code is engraved beside the waveform so people can play the sound with their phone.
- Export. SVG for engraving; Cut out for a stencil-style backlit piece.
Styles
| Style | Looks like | Best on |
|---|---|---|
| Bars | The classic vertical-bar waveform | Long plaques, signs, keychains |
| Line | A smooth outline of the sound | Minimal designs, scored acrylic |
| Circle | Bars arranged around a ring | Coasters, round plaques, ornaments |
Add a photo or cover art
You can add album art or a photo beside the waveform, as a square, a circle or a vinyl record shape. It’s engraved as dots, so it works on any laser, and pairs nicely with a song title for a record-sleeve look.
Test the QR code. Scan it on screen with your phone before cutting, and make sure the link is public. A link that needs a login won’t play for the person you give it to. Module size and contrast tips are on the QR code generator page.
Materials
Engraved waveforms look best with strong contrast: light woods like maple and birch, slate (light marks on dark stone), and anodized aluminum for keychains and dog tags. Cut-out waveforms in plywood or black acrylic with an LED behind make striking night lights.
Gift ideas
First dance songs for weddings and anniversaries, a baby’s heartbeat or first laugh, a grandparent’s voice message, a band’s best-known track for a music fan. Pair a waveform with a star map of the same night for a matching set.
Questions
What audio files can I use?
MP3, WAV, M4A and even a phone video. You can also press Record voice and speak straight into the app.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. The sound is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
How many bars look best?
Around 80 to 120 bars looks balanced on a 300 mm piece. Fewer, wider bars read better on small pieces like keychains.
How does the QR code work?
Paste a link to the song or voice note (for example a Spotify or YouTube link, or a link to a hosted recording) and a QR code is engraved beside the waveform. Scanning it with a phone plays the sound. Always test-scan the code on screen first.
Can I cut the waveform out?
Yes. Cut out makes a stencil-style piece that looks great with a light behind it.
