What it makes

The Sign Shop studio covers the signs a small business actually orders: channel letters and marquee letters for shop fronts, matching room-number and direction sets for offices, letter boards with grooves for loose letters, seasonal insert signs, A-frame riders, price signs and booth displays for markets and trade shows. Each product is drawn as ready-to-cut parts at the size you enter, so you are not redrawing the same sign by hand for every client.

From words to finished sign

  1. Pick a sign type and type the words. Sets make one sign per line.
  2. Set the size: letter height, sign width and mounting holes.
  3. Enter your material thickness so slots, returns and letter-board grooves fit.
  4. Export, cut the faces and backs, then glue or bend the return strip round each letter.

Tips for signs that sell

  • Use cast acrylic for faces. It cuts with flame-polished edges on a CO₂ laser. Extruded acrylic cuts too but the edges are less clear.
  • Light it from behind. A strip of LEDs inside a channel letter and a frosted face spreads the light evenly.
  • Price the whole set. Room signs are usually sold in sets of 10 to 50, so the price calculator helps you quote by the set, not the sign.
  • Add a QR code to menus, price signs and booth displays with the QR code generator.

ADA signs: tactile text and Braille have rules about size, spacing and mounting height that vary by location. The studio gives you a correct starting layout, but check the local requirements before you sell ADA signs.

Export

Signs export as SVG for laser software and DXF for CAD, in millimetres, so every face, back and return lines up at true size. For single name plaques and keychains, the name sign generator is quicker.

Questions

What are channel letters?

Channel letters are 3D letters with a front face, a back and a strip around the edge called the return. The return turns the flat letter into a shallow box that can hold LEDs, so the letter glows.

How is the return strip made?

The studio unrolls the outline of each letter into a long strip that matches its perimeter. Cut it from thin, flexible material, or kerf-bend it from plywood, then glue it between the face and the back.

Can I make a whole set of matching room signs?

Yes. Type one room or direction per line and the studio makes one sign per line in the same size, font and layout, laid out on sheets for your bed.

Does the ADA layout make signs ready to install?

It helps you lay out tactile text and Braille at standard sizes, but ADA rules depend on where the sign goes. Check the local requirements before you sell or install ADA signs.

Which material is best for sign faces?

Cast acrylic cut on a CO₂ laser gives polished edges with no extra finishing. Two-colour laminate is the quickest way to get crisp engraved text for room and office signs.
